The Story Behind BIOQTECH

It all began when an electronic engineer in the Royal Australian Air Force turned his inventive passion toward solving an everyday problem. With a love of designing signal-generating devices — and an equal love of beer — he struck up a casual conversation with a pub owner. That chat revealed a costly frustration: every time the beer lines were cleaned, precious beer was wasted.

Curious, the engineer decided to test one of his signal devices to see if it could control the bacteria that contaminated beer lines.
It worked.

That engineer is David Middleton, Founder and CEO of BIOQTECH. After more than five years of R&D in Japan and multiple iterations, the first BLM device underwent rigorous proof-of-concept trials across America, Japan, and Europe. Coupled with extensive microbiological studies in commercial and brewery laboratories worldwide, the results consistently demonstrated that the BLM-Qi technology retards the growth of beer spoilage bacteria and molds.

Adoption quickly followed. Breweries such as Kirin and Asahi in Japan were early adopters, and success there paved the way for expansion into Australia, the Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, South Africa, and the United States.

Today, BIOQTECH devices are installed and trusted on millions of draft beer lines worldwide — and the number continues to grow. Even as the company has become a global enterprise, David remains deeply involved, from engineering the latest BLM-Qi innovations to supporting sales and occasionally rolling up his sleeves for an installation.
